Swift Industries is a two-person project run out of Seattle, Washington. We design bicycle panniers and hand-craft our bags from the very first cut to the very last stitch. We’re two kids who love bicycles, relish adventure, and have deep admiration for high quality craft. Swift Industries is the perfect project for us to fuse all three.

What you do: customize the colors and details on your Swift Industries panniers. Check out the side panel for color options, ordering information and design details.

Check out our Cycle Swift Blog for our literary exploits, bicycle events, and more.

We’re working hard to get you outfitted for your next trip or dabbling about town. Thanks for checkin us out!

The backpack conversion is here!

Posted in Uncategorized on July 20, 2010 by swiftindustries

The backpack conversion has been in the works for a year now. Folks kept asking whether it would be possible, and I kept fiddling with the design I was working on. And now, after quite a wait, it’s here! Here are a couple photos for you all, enjoy!

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

The pannier has a soft foam back with a 3″X12″ ABS plastic strip to keep the hooks rigid on your rack.

One simply unclips the spoke guard webbing strap from the female buckles at the base of the bag and attaches the straps to form the backpack! When you’re finished dabbling ’round town, or doing your grocery shopping: slip the backpack straps back into their sneaky pocket, clip the spoke guard strap in place and mount the bag to your rack like any ole pannier.

Interview on Path Less Pedaled

If you haven’t yet, please turn to http://www.pathlesspedaled.com to view a wonderful photo essay and interview with Martina, here at Swift. We think you’ll enjoy it as much as we do!

frequently asked question:

are your bags waterproofed?

frequently responded answer:

Our panniers are all vinyl lined like the interior of a messenger bag (there is no extra fee). This makes them 98% waterproof…the hitch is that when we stitch through the vinyl it does puncture the seams and hence loses its efficiency. Companies like Ortleib heat seal or heat weld their fabric making them seamless, and hence totally waterproof.

We take measures to divert the water by putting a vinyl tubing along the seam which encourages the water that may enter down along the tubing and away from the interior of the bag and your belongings.

All that said, I commute 20 miles daily to my afternoon job, rain or shine, and have found dampness (as opposed to downright wetness) only twice: riding through two inches of street water.

It’s a totally valid concern to get picky about!

Central Co-OP Members

Posted in 1 on April 27, 2009 by swiftindustries

Hey Northwest Folks! We’re now a Madison Market/Central Co-Op Participating Business. What does that mean?

If you’re a Co-Op Member Owner we’ll hook up 5% off any purchase if you give us proof of membership.

Why are we a participating business? We’re really impressed by our local Madison Market Co-Op grocery and think that member-owner business models are a good step towards participatory democracy and positive purchasing power. So to commend your membership we’d like to give you a price break on our bags.

Cheers,

Martina and Goods
